65th Annual World Series of Drag Racing Set for Aug. 24-26
Cordova International Raceway announced its 2018 schedule today, highlighted by the 65th Annual World Series of Drag Racing presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts, the world’s longest continually drag racing event, on Aug. 24-26.
An annual Volunteer Day is scheduled for April 14 where racers, fans and other supporters in the community and from as far away as Chicago come out to fellowship, work on the facility and get it ready for action. The season starts just a week later, Saturday, April 21, with the Spring Warm-Up and Swap Meet/Car Show.
The first points race for the IHRA Summit SuperSeries is slated for Saturday, May 5. Other events include the original Super Chevy Show on Saturday, July 7 and the always popular Octoberfest, which takes place on Sept. 29-30.
Thursday Nights Slicks and Radials testing for cars, trucks and motorcycles is scattered throughout the season and there is a newly-added, six-part racing series called “River Redemption,” a small-tire racing series that’s sure to be a favorite of spectators.
“Last year’s Sudden Death race was a great start for this style of racing at Cordova International Raceway,” track president Dominic Blasco said. “We wanted to take that race a step further, add our own flair and make it a six-race series. We are proud to have partners from around the Midwest participating and we look forward to some of the fastest heads-up, clocks-off racing in the country.”
Once again, all eyes will be focused on the iconic 65th Annual World Series of Drag Racing presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts, which last year brought in sold-out crowds from around the United States and Canada to the three-day event.
“Last year’s success sets a high bar for this year,” CIR Director of Corporate Sponsorships Blake Anderson said. “But, we are confident that our dedicated team will make this year’s World Series of Drag Racing and our other great events at CIR ones to remember.”
